About lightships and other red ships
Some years ago one of our crew members toured our lightship with a group
of visitors. After they had seen all decks and all typical signal facilities,
especially of course the beacon, had been explained to them, the group
returned to the entrance and thanked their guide for that interesting
tour. There was only one question left: Where are the fire-fighting
hoses? (One of the visitors did not realise that a lightship is not
a ship of the fire-brigade - even if it is red)
Thank you very much to André Marx of the German lightship FEHMARNBELT
for this small amusing tale.
