Farewell-Party
for the lightship
VÄSTRA BANKEN

Since 2005 the former Swedish Lightship No. 23 VÄSTRA BANKEN has new owners, who had great plans for the ship. It will become the landmark and heart of their marina "Le Phare Bleu" on the south coast of Grenada in the Caribbean. Here it will accommodate the office of the marina and the resort management, the sanitation installations for the boat owners, a small museum about the history of the lightship, an accessible engine room for visitors with historically interested technics fans, an internet cafe, a bar and a neat restaurant.

To this end the lightship was first towed from Stockholm to Rostock in Germany and there, during several months of work, reconstructed for its new task. We, together with 70 guests, were invited to Rostock for the farewell party and want to thank Jana and Dieter again for the wonderful evening - that really was a suitable Good Bye.

We wish you much success with your project and may VÄSTRA BANKEN always have enough water under her keel!

We were really pleased about this invitation ...
...and we were lucky that the 30.09.2006 was a wonderful, warm autumn day.
The new owners, Jana and Dieter, greeted their guests on board and told about their plans.
Jana, together with the ship's restaurateurs Kathrin and Erich.
We were allowed to eclare the ship from the top of the light tower ......
... to the tydied engine room...
... and had the chance for interesting conversations.
Some work was delayed...
...because the time in the ship yard ...
... but it was a great pleasure to see, what hat been achieved in the past months.
Here the sanitary installtions for the boat oweners are created.
Dieter even provided for viewing the ship from the water.
We were provided with an appetising buffet ...
... and found many a cosy corner to sit.
When a thunderstorm brewed later that evening ...
... it became obvious just how nice the new wooden deck had been done...
... and the party continued below deck. Jana and Dieter honoured Kathrin and Erich for the work they had done ...
... and Erich and Kathrin thanked all their industrious helpers.
Than Dieter anounced a special highlight:
A concert of the Canadian duo "Mad Violet" ...
... as well as the Swiss Englishman Pete Scrowther...
... and all three, accompanied by Christian on drums and Dieter on the keyboard ...
... a super performance, which even made some folks on an evening walk on the pier, take secrest looks through the bulls eyes.
Late in the night this wonderful evening ended. Thank you very much Jana and Dieter!
