The author presents a detailed account of the Lightship Service in Denmark from its beginning in 1829 to the removal of the last staffed ship from station in 1988. There is a section of the book entitled "Life Aboard the Lightships" which outlines the watch schedules, the days aboard, and the days off, meals and diet, and the comfort and discomfort aboard due to sea and other conditions.
