Lightship

OVERFALLS
|
John Milroy was a model maker of many years and liked to do ships. He has models in several museums across the country. He was a local person and the Overfalls lightship is one of the local icons. So a model of the Overfalls lightship seemed to him to be the next thing to do. The model is a display on a wooden base in a Plexiglass case and was created from the original construction drawings and a bunch of photos and measures, that John took onboard. The scale is 3/8" to one foot, which means 1:32. He built it over about a six month period and made everything from scratch. After a year on a loan basis, John donated the model to the Overfalls Maritime Museum Foundation. Today it is
on display in the lobby of a local bank in Lewes, Delaware. But
several times a year the Overfalls
Maritime Museum Foundation takes
it to festivals, events and presentations to gain publicity for the
foundation. The
model is having a hard life as it is moved a lot and over long distances
but the exposure that it gets make the rough treatment worthwhile.
