ELBE 2
Date of issue: August 27th, 1977

The ship shown on the stamp is the German lightship CASPAR. It is a wooden lightship and was built in 1845 at the shipyard Johann Hinrich von Somm in Hamburg. The artist is Hans Bohrdt (1857 – 1945). It is named after Senator Caspar Hartung from Hamburg. The lightship was stationed on the ELBE 2 station from 1879 until 1905.

Who knows why this picture was used for a stamp in Paraguay?
