American lightships |
|
Altogether, there were 179 lightships, that served in the waters around the United States and protected the shipping from heavy accidents. Lightships in the USA are red in normally and carry the name of the station, to which they were assigned, on both sides of the hull in white letters. However, these names are not the ship names because they were altered from station to station. American lightships were marked with a combination of numbers such as LV 103/WAL 526. Today, only 15 lightships are remaining from the 179 lightships, of which however, none is on active service anymore. The American population's interest in the conservation of these historic ships is very high. Therefore the lightships are accessible to the public and in very good condition as museum ships.
You will find only a summary of data of the individual lightships in this table.
